Soybean Crop Progress Variable

July 12, 2008 at 10:01 am

Soybean is far and away the #1 crop in Van Wert County with over 120,000 acres in soybean production, according to NASS. This year, due to wet conditions, I am seeing extremely variable crop progress with soybeans. Below I have included a few photos to illustrate my point.

Soybeans planted June 8, 2008. I staged these soybeans at V2 on July 11, 2008. The producer was not able to get this field planted until the first week of June due to weather challenges.

What a difference a week makes! These soybeans (which are less than a mile apart from the field in the above photo) were planted on May 29, 2008. I staged these soybeans at R1 on July 11, 2008.
